Reports suggest that Qualcomm is already working on the next generation of its laptop processor, tentatively called the Snapdragon X2 Elite. According to information from WinFuture, this new chip has been undergoing internal testing for several months.

While specific technical details remain undisclosed, the leak reveals the processor’s identification code and potential codename. The Snapdragon X2 Elite is reportedly listed in databases with the model number “SC8480XP”. This designation follows the naming convention of its predecessor, the first-generation X Elite, which was identified as “SC8380XP“.

The development timeline indicates that initial versions of the SC8480XP were documented in July and August, using test boards with removable memory and storage components typical of early-stage development. Given this timeframe, it’s likely that the official launch of the X2 Elite won’t occur until 2025, with a possible teaser announcement at the Snapdragon Summit 2024 scheduled for late October.

Interestingly, Qualcomm has reportedly chosen “Glymur” or “Project Glymur” as the internal codename for the X2 Elite, referencing an Icelandic waterfall. This marks a departure from the company’s traditional use of Hawaiian place names, potentially signaling new ambitions for the next-generation Snapdragon X series.

In addition to the X2 Elite, the report mentions an upcoming expansion of the first-generation Snapdragon X line. A model identified as “X1P-24-100″ is in development, likely belonging to the Snapdragon X Plus series. This chip is expected to be a more basic offering compared to the recently launched 8-core Snapdragon X Plus (model X1P-42-100). The introduction of this lower-tier option aims to reduce the cost of Snapdragon-powered notebooks and increase adoption in the Windows ecosystem.

While the exact specifications of the X1P-24-100 remain unknown, it may be officially unveiled at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit in October. As the event approaches, more information about these new processors is expected to emerge.
