Valve has announced a new limited edition of its Steam Deck, featuring an OLED screen and a sleek white design, set to launch this November.
The Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White offers the same technical specifications as the standard black model but is only available in the 1TB storage variant. The device features a full white casing, complemented by light gray accents on the buttons, triggers, and analog sticks. Additionally, buyers will receive a special white carrying case and a microfiber cloth for screen cleaning.
The limited edition model will be available in all regions where Valve currently sells the Steam Deck. It’s priced at $679, with sales officially beginning on November 18.
More colors for the Steam Deck OLED
The launch of the Steam Deck OLED: Limited White Edition comes a year after Valve’s release of the translucent Steam Deck, another limited edition that was described as an “experiment.” Valve’s strategy appears to involve gauging consumer interest in different color options for its handheld devices, helping the company determine the potential for more diverse designs in future products.
However, this does not necessarily indicate that Valve plans to introduce a wide range of colors for the current Steam Deck models, including the OLED version. Instead, the company is likely assessing market demand and feasibility, rather than committing to a full lineup of color options. It’s more about exploring possibilities for future iterations and refining their approach based on user feedback.
Looking ahead, the upcoming release of AMD’s Z2 Extreme processor, expected in early 2025, could pave the way for a next-generation Steam Deck. A potential “Steam Deck 2” with upgraded specs might enter the market to compete with the new wave of handheld gaming devices. If Valve continues its trend of experimenting with limited-edition designs, we could see a broader array of colors and styles in future releases, giving fans even more customization options.
