A new wave of rumors surrounding Nintendo’s next console has surfaced this week, suggesting that the upcoming device will be called Switch 2. These rumors, which claim the console has already entered production, also hint at some notable differences from the original Switch.
The source of the rumors comes from fwd-bwd, a user on Famiboard, a forum known for accurately predicting past Nintendo developments. According to the post, a worker from a Chinese factory involved in the production of the Switch 2 claimed that the console was being mass-produced, with each worker assembling around 1,000 units per day.
The Switch 2 is rumored to be slightly larger than the original 2017 model, featuring a screen that takes up more of the device’s surface area. Additionally, it will include black and white Joy-Cons, which will connect via magnetic connectors instead of the traditional rail system. The console will also reportedly have the number “2” inscribed on its side, reinforcing the speculation that its official name will be Switch 2.
New Switch 2 features and different design
A new set of rumors from Taiwan Economic Daily supports much of the information shared on Famiboard and offers additional insights into the Switch 2’s features and design.
According to the publication, Nintendo’s upcoming console will feature an improved battery for extended playtime, along with artificial intelligence features and support for DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), NVIDIA’s upscaling technology used in GeForce RTX graphics cards. This could significantly enhance graphics performance, offering higher resolutions and smoother gameplay.
Perhaps the most intriguing detail is the rumor that the Switch 2 will have a dual-screen design, potentially reminiscent of the Nintendo DS and 3DS systems, but with a larger scale to fit its hybrid console nature. While specifics on how this dual-screen feature will work are still unclear, it could open up new possibilities for gameplay and user interaction.
The Switch 2 is expected to launch during fiscal year 2024 (ending in March 2025), with a projected price of $400. While this price point is higher than the original Switch’s launch price, it remains far more affordable than the newly announced PlayStation 5 Pro, which has faced criticism for its $700 price tag.
Though these details remain unconfirmed, the growing number of rumors suggests that it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo officially unveils the Switch 2, possibly during an upcoming Nintendo Direct.
