Truecaller, the leading caller ID app, is gearing up for a technological revolution by integrating Microsoft’s Personal Voice technology from Azure AI Speech. This advancement, announced at the Microsoft Build 2024 conference, promises to transform how we interact with virtual assistants.
Personal Voice technology at the user’s service
Last Wednesday, Truecaller made an exciting game-changing announcement. By leveraging Microsoft’s Personal Voice technology, Truecaller will allow users to “create a full digital version of your voice to use within the Assistant.”
The Truecaller AI Assistant, which already has a wide range of artificial intelligence features, will gain a powerful new capability – it will be able to answer incoming calls on your behalf using your synthesized voice.
Unlike traditional voicemail systems with generic voices, when the Truecaller AI Assistant answers a call, the caller will hear what sounds like the user’s voice. This provides a much warmer and more personal experience compared to standard voicemail.
However, this innovative voice calling feature is only available to Truecaller users with an active Premium subscription plan. And even then, it’s initially being rolled out in just a select few regions including the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden, and Chile.
But don’t worry if you’re not in one of those first regions – Truecaller has plans to expand the availability of this Personal Voice AI calling assistant to more areas very soon.
Overall, this is a fascinating development that could revolutionize how we use AI assistants and voicemail systems by making the experience much more natural and personal through synthesized voices that sound like ours.
Simple Activation and Authentic Experience
To activate this feature, go to Settings > Assistant > Set Up Personal Voice and follow the instructions. Once set up, your callers will hear a realistic replication of your voice through the Assistant in your Truecaller app.
This provides a more personalized response, though it also raises concerns about dehumanizing interactions and creating a false sense of humanity. It will be interesting to see how well this new Truecaller service is received by businesses.
