WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets users set an end time for events within group chats. This feature is currently available in the Beta version of the app for Android and is expected to roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
The update was first reported by WABetaInfo and later confirmed by All Tech Nerd during testing on Sunday (11). The feature was found in version 2.24.17.12 of the app, though it also works in other recent versions of WhatsApp.
This new option enhances the existing event creation tools within group chats, making it more like Google Calendar and other calendar apps. When setting up a meeting or event in a group conversation, users can now choose to “Add end time” along with the start time. This allows you to specify when an event, such as a party or meeting, will begin and when it’s expected to end.
Once the event details are set, both the start and end times are visible to all members of the chat. If you need to make changes, you can edit the event and remove the end time if necessary.
No release date yet
Currently, the new event scheduling feature is only accessible to users participating in WhatsApp’s Beta program via the Google Play Store. However, the rollout is happening gradually, so not all Beta users have received the update yet.
Meta has not announced when this feature will be available to the general public.
