WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to search for received images directly on Google, according to a report by WABetaInfo on Wednesday (9). Still in development and not yet available to the public, the feature was spotted in the Beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
This tool is designed to help users verify media-related content, especially when checking the authenticity of images or photos received from contacts. The new “Search the web” option appears in the menu when accessing media sent in a conversation.
When the feature is used, WhatsApp prompts a warning that the image will be uploaded to Google for the search but clarifies that the image will not be shared with WhatsApp itself. Users are then given two options: “Search” or “Cancel.”
Although this functionality was found in Beta version 2.24.21.31, there is no official timeline for its wider rollout to all users.
