WhatsApp will let you choose how to clear notifications from the app icon

WhatsApp is working on a new feature for Android that will let users choose how notifications are displayed on the app icon on the home screen. Currently, the notification badge shows the total number of unread messages, and this count resets as soon as the app is opened. The upcoming update will allow the count to reset only after all unread messages and missed call notifications have been checked.

This change can be particularly helpful for users who want to keep track of unread conversations without needing to open the app constantly. Instead of simply opening WhatsApp to clear the notification, you’ll now have to read all messages or call notifications for the count to disappear.

The feature has been made available to a limited group of WhatsApp Beta users on Android, in version 2.24.20.17. However, not all beta testers, including some on the alltechnerd testing team, have received the option yet.

Once fully rolled out, the setting will be found under the “Notifications” tab in WhatsApp’s settings, and the default option will be to reset the count when the app is opened. There’s no word yet on when this feature will be available on iOS.

WhatsApp has gained categories for channels.

Recently, Meta introduced a new feature in its app that organizes channels into categories, making it easier for users to discover new profiles. The app now displays the most popular and active channels in various categories, including sports, entertainment, lifestyle, and news.

This update aims to streamline the user experience by allowing people to quickly find channels that match their interests, enhancing content discovery and engagement within the platform.
