Microsoft is gearing up for a significant refresh of the Windows 11 Start Menu, aiming to deliver a more personalized and streamlined user experience. According to leaks shared by @phantomofearth on X (formerly Twitter), the update will unify the pinned apps, recommended section, and full app list into a single, cohesive interface.
One of the most requested features is finally being addressed: the option to remove the “Recommended” section, which many users have found cluttered or unnecessary. The redesign will also let users view all pinned apps without expanding the menu, making frequently used tools easier to access at a glance.
This update responds directly to longstanding feedback about the Start Menu’s limited customization and the awkward separation of app views. By merging these elements into one unified experience, Microsoft aims to create a more intuitive and accessible layout.
While these features haven’t been officially confirmed yet, Microsoft is expected to unveil them soon—likely around its 50th anniversary celebrations and the upcoming Microsoft Build event in May.
That said, not everyone is sold on the redesign. While offering more options is a step in the right direction, there’s a concern that Microsoft may still be experimenting blindly with such a core part of the operating system.
