A recent Windows update has introduced an unexpected issue affecting both Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. Some printers connected via USB have started printing random text or network requests automatically after the March update.
Microsoft Confirms the Issue
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, which occurs when users turn on or connect their USB printers. This issue affects both the latest version of Windows 10 and all versions of Windows 11. However, it only impacts printers that use the USB Print or IPP over USB protocols.
On the official Windows update page, Microsoft detailed the issue:
“After installing the Windows preview update (KB5050092) released on January 29, 2025, or later updates, some users may experience issues with USB-connected printers that support the USB Print and IPP over USB protocols.”
Microsoft’s Fix: No Action Required from Users
Fortunately, users don’t need to take any manual action to fix this issue. Microsoft is rolling out a remote fix using Known Issue Rollback (KIR) technology, which disables problematic update code without affecting security updates.
The fix should take effect within 24 to 48 hours. Restarting your computer multiple times can help speed up the process if you’re affected. Once the remote configuration is applied, your printer should function normally again.
