Xbox Game Studios, Ninja Team, and PlatinumGames announced Ninja Gaiden 4 this Thursday (23), which will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (via Microsoft Store and Steam). The game will also launch on Game Pass as a “Day One” title. While it’s expected to be released in the last quarter of 2025, no official release date has been set yet.
This will be the first numbered installment in the series in 13 years and introduces a new protagonist: Yakumo. He will join Ryu Hayabusa in battling the return of the Dark Dragon. Both characters will be playable, offering a fresh experience for newcomers while keeping Ryu in the narrative for longtime fans. This approach is similar to what Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio did with Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Ninja Gaiden 4 will retain its Hack ‘N Slash genre, with both heroes fighting the Dark Dragon’s forces using a variety of tricks and plenty of action. The trailer also gives a sneak peek at some of the bosses players will encounter in the game.
2025 is the year of Ninja Gaiden
After being away from the video game scene for many years, the Ninja Gaiden franchise is set to deliver two major releases in 2025. While Ninja Gaiden 4, revealed by Xbox Game Studios, introduces a new chapter for the series, another title is also on the way for fans: Ninja Gaiden Ragebound.
Announced at The Game Awards 2024, Ninja Gaiden Ragebound stands out with its retro aesthetic, harking back to the era when the franchise first appeared on the NES. This adventure will introduce a new protagonist, Kenji Mozu.
Both titles are set for release close to one another: Ninja Gaiden 4 will arrive at the end of the year, while Ragebound is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2025 across all platforms.
