Xiaomi is testing a new feature, WinPlay, that aims to enable its tablets to run Windows games natively. This technology is currently being evaluated on the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, with the company seeking testers via the Chinese platform Weibo.
Unlike cloud gaming, WinPlay doesn’t rely on streaming or a Windows device. Instead, it functions as an emulator, allowing Android devices to run Windows programs directly. Xiaomi claims the GPU performance drop during testing was minimal—just 2.9% compared to running on native Windows devices.
When fully implemented, WinPlay will support installing platforms like Steam, enabling users to access their game libraries. However, the compatibility of all games has yet to be guaranteed. Additionally, users will be able to pair Xbox controllers, creating a more immersive gaming experience closer to traditional PCs.
Early reports suggest that demanding games, such as Tomb Raider, could run smoothly on this system. The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, launched last year, is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of internal storage, making it well-suited for such tasks.
Xiaomi Community members with compatible devices can register to test WinPlay during its preview phase. However, the company has not disclosed a timeline for the public release of this technology.
